Natural Hair Journey - MicroLocs

Diy Microlocs Establishment - 1.5 years loc'd

I started my loc journey after being #natural for 7+ years. My hair journey consisted of a cycle based on the seasons... Summer dramatic haircuts, Fall growth and tapered haircuts, Winter more growth and protective styling and Spring finish protective styling in preparation for the summer's dramatic cut!

Fall 2018, I decided I was over my typical hair cycle and thought quick and easy (opposed to long and hard) about loc'ing. I can be very spontaneous when it comes to my hair... I first considered traditional locs via twists or coils, but quickly decided that wasn't the route for me. I knew I'd become bored with my hair if there wasn't much versatility.

Then, I decided I needed the locs to be small, I started researching "small locs" and found Sisterlocks. I thought wow, these locs would be gorgeous and decided in that moment I'd be getting sisterlocks.

Well... my journey to sisterlocks was cut short very quickly when I realized how expensive they are. A friend of mine has sisterlocks so she gave me a ton of information and explained how much of an investment it is. At that moment I needed to weigh my desire for these locs along with my spontaneous nature. While considering all of this, I decided to get pricing for my 4 inch hair and the price quoted was 1200.00/USD.

Finally, I decided this was not the way to go so I continued to research "small locs" and sisterlocks alternatives and found microlocs. There were many ways to achieve these locs (i.e. twists, coils, interlocking, etc.) I decided to go with the twist option.

On December 1, 2018 I embarked on this beautiful journey and have not looked back.

Today, I am 17 months into my journey and I am loving it! To everyone who provided inspiration and encouragement thank you!

I hope you enjoyed!
